What is an Iron Infusion?

During an Iron Infusion, your healthcare professional will administer a prescribed and/or calculated dose of iron into your body via your bloodstream using a needle and IV (intravenous) drip. The specific type and dosage of iron used will depend on the individual's condition and the doctor's recommendation. The infusion is usually given slowly over a period of time, typically ranging from 15 minutes to several hours, while the individual rests or sits comfortably. The iron combined with a saline solution mixes with the blood, and slowly works to restore your iron levels up to a healthy range. The decision to undergo an iron infusion should be made in consultation with your GP who will be able to assess specific conditions and determine the most appropriate treatment approach. We offer Intravenous iron infusions to adults over 18 years old, provided it is clinically appropriate.
